Mary’s Memories:
My beautiful little bald-headed baby! I was still living at home with my mother so Col had lots of attention.
Col started school at St Therese catholic School, Yenda. She loved her afternoon nap at school and used to put her head down on the desk and have a sleep!
When we moved to “Gunbar” she stayed with Jimmy at Nanna Mahy’s to attend school. Then, after moving to “Rostella”, Col went to Wellington Convent to board. She had a year at home in 1959, then went nursing at Bulli Hospital.
After her marriage she lived in Wollongong for some years. During this time, she helped look after her ageing and ailing grandmother.
Her fireman husband was promoted and transferred to Albury in 1978. Colleen, quiet, dependable and hard-working. She worked in a special school for mentally and physically handicapped children for many years. She now works in a doctor’s surgery and enjoys her knitting and craft for relaxation. Ashley was promoted to Officer, Area Commander 1992 but had to retire medically unfit in 1993.
Anne lives in Melbourne now and Jim still enjoys the comforts of home and works at the Albury abattoir.
