Red Bend Catholic College
(formerly Marist Brothers’ College) Forbes
1963: Peter Watts
College Leader, CUO, Captain of Loyola House, Solidarity of Mary
First XIII, winger, with three years experience in the firsts, Peter is our lightest and fastest player. He was, in several games, given limited opportunities and that he could still have scored eighteen tries in a season is a tribute to his ability. A determined runner, Peter was very hard to stop, also a good tackler.
1968: John Watts
College Vice-Captain, College Prefect (3 times), Captain of Basil House, CUO
John Watts (Forbes): Eldest of the six Watts boys at the College, John really blazes the trail for his brothers. He plays a leading part in every College undertaking with a thoroughness and enthusiasm that leave most of us gasping. That uncontrollable hair never seemed to worry him in study, but it did cause him to lose sight of one 15mph speed limit sign.
First XIII Captain (lock forward). John is an inspiring leader and a delightful player to watch. He is a beautiful mover who creates many opportunities with his elusive running and accurate passes, and a player who can quickly detect weaknesses in opposing teams.
1970: Pat Watts
Currently head of the Watts clan, “bok” is well-respected for his enormous contribution to the life of the College; a member of the First XIII, a CUO, Open Swimming Champion, a member of the athletics team, and a solid citizen into the bargain. Quiet and studious in school, he still enjoys a good joke and a light-hearted prank. His achievement for the year can be seen in the photo. (insert photo)
1971: Mick Watts
Mick Watts – another chapter in the Watts family’s contribution to the school’s life, Mick excelled, as have his brothers, in sport and school spirit, served as a CUO in cadets and slogged away consistently at his studies.
1973: Chris Watts
Class of ’73. Chris Watts. A day boy of nine years standing. He has been a School Prefect, a member of the First XIII, second XI, swimming and athletics teams and Y.C.S.
Open A Football 1973: Chris Watts (lock). The hardest worked member of the team, Chris added further lustre to the Watts name by taking out “Best and Fairest” for the year.
1975: Tony Watts
Tony Watts: Another of the outstanding Watts. We all “Bow” to his accomplishment at the College. “Boris” is a literary genius, a sensational footballer (played in the Open A’s for three years), winning Best & Fairest for the last two. He captained the undefeated Xavier. He’s an athletics champion and vice-captain of the school. After nine years at the College Tony’s example and friendship will be missed by all.
Open A Football 1973: Tony Watts (five-eighth). Baby of the team, yet Footballer of the Year, Tony earned the title with his swerving side-step and baffling change of pace. Another one to watch!
1976: David Watts
“Darkie”. One of the last of the great line of Watts’. An outstanding player from the Open A’s. Took part in AMFAS. Guitarist for Red Bend Singers. Survived 9 years at College.
